Lighting Is the Jewelry of Your Home
We say this all the time at Wayne Home & Design Co.: Lighting is the jewelry of the home. You can have beautiful cabinetry, gorgeous countertops, the perfect paint color, and incredible furniture—but builder-grade or incorrectly scaled lighting can instantly bring the entire design down. Lighting shouldn’t simply illuminate your home. It should elevate it. A beautiful chandelier can turn a dining room into a destination. Oversized pendants can transform a kitchen island. Sconces can give a bathroom the character of a boutique hotel. And a statement fixture can become artwork in its own right—even when it’s turned off.
Don’t Be Afraid of Scale
One of the most common mistakes we see is lighting that’s too small. If you’re debating between two sizes, the larger fixture is often the better choice. Properly scaled lighting creates presence and makes a space feel custom rather than builder-basic.
Layer Your Lighting
Great lighting also doesn’t come from one source. We love combining overhead lighting with lamps, sconces, under-cabinet lighting, picture lights, and accent lighting. Each layer creates depth and allows the mood of a room to change throughout the day. And whenever possible—add dimmers.
Your Fixtures Don’t Have to Match
Just like jewelry, your lighting should feel collected rather than purchased as a matching set. Different fixtures can share a common finish, shape, material, or design language without being identical. Your lighting is an opportunity to introduce personality into your home.
When you’re designing or remodeling, don’t leave lighting until the end of the budget. Give it the attention it deserves. Because the right jewelry completes the outfit—and the right lighting completes the home.
