Yes, You Can Mix Metals in Your Home

Can you use brass cabinet hardware if your appliances are stainless steel? Yes.

Can your faucet be polished nickel while your light fixtures are brass? Absolutely.

Do all of the metal finishes throughout your house need to match? Definitely not.

At Wayne Home & Design Co., we don’t mind mixing metals, in fact, we love it when it’s done intentionally.

Matching Everything Isn’t the Goal

When every faucet, knob, light fixture, door handle, and accessory is exactly the same finish, a home can sometimes feel overly coordinated. Mixing finishes gives a room dimension and makes it feel more collected. Warm brass with matte black. Polished nickel with antique brass. Stainless appliances with brass hardware. These combinations can work beautifully together.

Pick a Dominant Finish

The easiest approach is to establish one dominant metal and then layer in one or two secondary finishes. For example, your kitchen might have brass cabinet hardware and plumbing fixtures while black appears on the lighting and bar stools. Stainless steel appliances simply become another neutral element within the room.

Repeat It

The key to making mixed metals feel intentional is repetition. If brass appears once in an entire room, it may feel accidental. Repeat it in a few thoughtful places and suddenly it becomes part of the design.

Don’t Be Afraid to Break the “Rules”

Your home doesn’t need to look like every fixture came from the same collection. Some of the most beautiful interiors combine old and new, warm and cool, polished and aged. The common thread should be the overall feeling of the home—not necessarily the finish stamped on every piece of hardware. A thoughtfully designed home should feel collected, layered, and personal.

So yes, mix those metals.

We certainly will.
